“Dark Horst is a new Horst Couture collection, a collaboration from designers Horst and Ms. Steamy. It springs from Gothic inspiration, starring subtle silvers, vibrant ebonies, and elaborate reds. Interchangeable pieces allow for customized looks. Pair it with an exquisite statement necklace by Ms. Steamy for an even more refined ensemble” – Horst Couture

At the end of 2014 we here at Blind 7 had the pleasure of meeting an amazing designer Horst, and with in a few month we had set up to shoot his line at the time which created the first fashion series “The day Ohio stood still” after the year long battle to get it published we decided the next line we would just self publish, and that’s exactly what were doing here!

A few months had passed since the release of Tdoss, Horst and his lovely wife Jessica had been hard at work on there new line “DARK” and after seeing just a small preview I knew these dresses needed shot in a out of this world location. a few years back some very good friends of mine over at TIDY Photography and Abandoned aperture had taken me and my crew to Gary IN for a fun filled shoot I knew this was the perfect place to showcase the beauty of these one of a kind fabric creations so we started planning. Now like with most shoots alot goes into planning but since Gary IN has like 0 models living in it Hell I think the total day time population of the entire city is less than 100 people I had to find models that not only were small in the waste but ones that were willing and able to travel the 4.5 hour drive.  then figure out the logistics of 14 peoples travel hotel stays and gaining a permit to shoot in the abandoned structures. There were 2 models I knew I wanted in on this line as they both did a KILLER job with the last one Kelly and Gypsy so they were the first two I contacted Gypsy now living in FL didn’t even hesitate she booked a plane ticket and flew into Gary to meet us and Kelly was on board from the jump as well.

I cannot stress enough the importants of gaining proper permission before entering a property remember someone owns them it may be the city it may be some old crazy lady (mudd house manor) or it may be someone is living there under squatter law and well you just walked in there house they have the right to defend it

As it turns out with Gary a simple phone call and some cash to the city took care of our legal access so we didn’t have to worry about police or tickets or jail time so it makes for a much less stressful day of shooting. with it being such a far way away from our studio we had to make sure we planned as much as we could “Plan for the impossible” is a good quote if you don’t think it can happen it probably will so not only was the shoot planned down to the min so was packing.

“Plan for the impossible”

The Morning of our departure My stunning wife (Juliet Blind SFXMUA) had to work at her day job so I woke up and took her to work then proceeded to meet with our apprentice Marlon to finish packing and loading the car we spent most of the day polishing lenses and double checking batteries and gear. When it was time for Juliet to get off work we picked her up brought her back to the house to change and finish collecting her Make up and tools then its the ever fun game of Tetris loading the gear into the car while leaving enough room for the passengers. Once we were all loaded up we hit the road about 5pm.

we spent the next few hours jamming out to music, chatting about nonsense, and watching Marlon try to get truckers to honk there horns (always entertaining) we arrived at the hotel just after 10pm and unloaded most of the gear into the hotel room, Horst, Mrs Steamy, Kelly, Gypsy, and Jules joined us for a group meeting that Amanda (HMUA) would join in a little later, We had 2 other models that were still on there way but had not arrived as of yet. So we all sat in our hotel room and talked about the game plan for the next day going over as much detail as we possibly could to try to make the day go smoother. Unfortunately Sara one of our models had broken down just out side of Ohio and was forced to have her car towed the 2 hours back to her home to be fixed and we had not heard from Fox as of yet so around 3 am We all did our level best to get some sleep.

I woke just a few hours later around 7am, Grabbed some pants and my smokes and headed outside. when I still had not heard from Fox I called her to make sure she was alright and her husband answered, it turned out she had been rushed to the hospital and was still admitted and he had been waiting to call me to let me know but didn’t want to wake me. So we were down 2 models but were Professionals and no that word doesn’t just mean you get paid for what you do, its a way of acting as well it describes your ability to adapt and move forward and how you react to all the curve balls that come with productions of any size from no models to 20 models how you adapt counts we had 14 dresses and 3 models so we needed to adapt the game plan and move quickly so after my smoke I went to wake the masses. Jessica AKA Mrs Steamy had already taken the place of another model that had to cancel last min so that gave us a 4th but we were still down but we made it work!

Once we were at the first location the Beautiful cathedral we began just like nothing had gone wrong Amanda ROCKED out hair and make up at record speeds and we all worked as a team fluidly and then at the second location Juliet Killed it with some creepy aväntˈɡärd make up titled Blurry face, we even had a special guest pop in and say hello and spend some of his day shooting BTS photos for us Aaron from Abandoned Aperture. He spent the greater part of the day helping out in any way he could, I’m so glad he had time to show up and hang.

After 9 long hours of shooting, climbing, dust, rust, and stunning models in amazing designs it was time to pack up and head back to good old Ohio before we left we were all starving so we stopped off at a local Arbys This was by far the weirdest part of the whole trip we pulled up to the speaker and placed our order then we noticed there was no window to get your food?!?! hmm so we waited in line after a few cars in front of us were gone we pulled up to what looked like the pneumatic tube banks use for the window teller Sure as shit there was a cup for your money and you pushed the button sending your payment up into the building. About 10 min later a little elevator lowered with the food in 34 years on this planet i have never seen such a weird way to deliver food to a drive through, The food was terrible but we were all so hungry we just SMASHED it then the long trip home.

after all of that I felt we had done so much but we had run short on time at the end and left 4 dresses un-shot so the following Tuesday Sara and Jackie LaPonza dawned the dresses at a local abandoned warehouse to complete the collection so with that said we shot 14 looks in 2 states in around 12 hours time not to bad.
